Just cleared your CBSE Class 10 or Class 12 exams and planning to take admission in a new board or institution? Then, one important document you’ll need is the Migration Certificate. This certificate confirms that you have officially left the CBSE board and are eligible to continue your education elsewhere.

Earlier, getting a migration certificate involved visiting your school or CBSE office and waiting for the printed copy. But now, the process has become much simpler. From 2025 onwards, CBSE has started issuing only digital migration certificates, which students can easily download online.

In this blog, we’ll explain how to get migration certificate from CBSE in a step-by-step manner. Whether you're applying for college or switching boards, this guide will help you get your certificate quickly and without any confusion.

What is a CBSE Migration Certificate?

A CBSE Migration Certificate is an official document given to students after they complete Class 10 or 12. It proves that the student has moved from the CBSE board to another board or school. This certificate is often needed when applying to colleges or schools under a different board or in another state.

Why Is It Required?

  • For admission to colleges or schools affiliated with other boards or universities.
  • It is often asked during the counselling or admission process.
  • It helps ensure there’s no duplication of academic records.

Who Gets It?

  • Students who pass Class 10 or Class 12 board exams conducted by CBSE.
  • Students who intend to shift to another board, university, or country.

How to Get Migration Certificate from CBSE Online?

Students can easily get their CBSE migration certificate online through DigiLocker. Just log in using your Aadhaar-linked mobile number on the DigiLocker app or website, go to the "Issued Documents" section, and download your migration certificate.

Let’s now go through the complete steps to get your CBSE migration certificate online using DigiLocker.

1. Visit the DigiLocker Website or App

  • DigiLocker is a government-approved platform that stores official documents like marksheets, certificates, and ID proofs online in digital format.
  • First, open your mobile or computer browser and go to the official DigiLocker website

Alternatively, you can download the DigiLocker app from:

  • Google Play Store (for Android phones)
  • Apple App Store (for iPhones)

2. Register or Login to DigiLocker

  • Now you need to either log in if you already have an account or register if you’re using DigiLocker for the first time.
  • For registering in Digilocker, use your Aadhaar-linked mobile number or the same mobile number you gave while registering for CBSE board exams.
  • Enter the mobile number and click on ‘Get OTP’.
  • If you already have an account, just log in using your registered mobile number.

3. Enter OTP for Verification

  • After entering your mobile number, you will receive a One-Time Password (OTP) on that number.
  • Enter the OTP in the box to verify your identity.
  • This step is necessary to keep your account secure and private.

4. Enter Security PIN (Roll Number)

  • To access CBSE documents like the migration certificate, DigiLocker will ask for a security PIN.
  • This PIN is the last six digits of your CBSE Roll Number (used during your Class 10 or 12 board exam).
  • Example: If your CBSE roll number is 2234567, then your PIN will be 34567 (last 6 digits).
  • Enter this PIN correctly to link your CBSE documents with your DigiLocker account.

5. Go to the 'Issued Documents' Section

Once you're logged in and verified:

  • You’ll reach the DigiLocker Dashboard (your personal homepage).
  • Now, click on the tab that says ‘Issued Documents’.
  • This section contains all the documents that are officially issued to you by CBSE.

6. Download the CBSE Migration Certificate

  • In the Issued Documents section, look for the option titled "CBSE – Central Board of Secondary Education".
  • Then you will find the list of certificates:

i. CBSE Class 10 or 12 Migration Certificate
ii. Marksheet
iii. Pass Certificate (if applicable)

  • Click on the Migration Certificate, and then press the Download or Save button.
  • The file will be saved in PDF format.
  • You can keep it on your phone, laptop, or even take a printout if needed.

CBSE Migration Certificate Fees

Getting your migration certificate from CBSE is quite affordable. The board charges only a small fee, which depends on how quickly you need the certificate.

Regular Fee

  • The normal fee for applying for a migration certificate is ₹250.
  • You’ll receive the certificate within the standard processing time.
  • Ideal for students who apply early and do not need the certificate urgently.

Urgent Fee

  • If you need the certificate quickly (for example, for immediate admission or document submission), then this is for you.
  • CBSE processes and delivers it faster than usual.
  • Just select the ‘urgent’ option while applying and pay ₹500 instead of ₹250.

CBSE Migration Certificate Format

When you download or request your CBSE Migration Certificate, you will see that it follows a standard and clear format. Whether you're downloading the digital version from DigiLocker or applying for a hard copy, the format remains the same.

1. Student’s Name

  • This will be your full name, exactly as recorded in your CBSE admit card or marksheet.
  • Make sure the spelling is correct because it should match your other academic documents.

2. Roll Number

  • Your unique CBSE roll number will be mentioned here.
  • This number was assigned to you during your Class 10 or 12 board exams and is used to identify your official records.

3. Parent’s Name

  • The certificate usually includes the name of your father or mother, as provided during your exam registration.
  • This helps in confirming your identity and family background.

4. School Name and Address

  • The full name and address of your school will also be mentioned.
  • This shows the CBSE-affiliated school you studied at and from which you appeared for the board examination.

5. Declaration

  • This is an official statement written by CBSE declaring that you have passed the board exam and are now eligible to migrate to another educational board or institution.
  • It confirms that you have officially exited the CBSE system.

6. Date and Place

  • The certificate will show the date it was issued and the place (usually the concerned CBSE regional office).
  • This helps institutions know when the document was generated.

7. Signature of Issuing Authority

  • At the bottom of the certificate, you will find the signature either digital (for online versions) or handwritten (for printed copies) of the CBSE officer who issued it.
  • This makes the document authentic and valid for admissions or counselling.

Conclusion

Now that you know how to get migration certificate from CBSE, the process is no longer stressful. Thanks to DigiLocker, students can easily download their migration certificate online using just their registered mobile number and CBSE roll number. This digital certificate is valid for most colleges, universities, and admission processes across India.
